"It is not happy people who are thankful.
It is thankful people who are happy." -Author Unknown
We all want to raise happy children, but what does happiness really mean?
We now know that the old definition of more $$$ + more success will lead to more happiness, is not accurate. At all.
But then what does lead to this seemingly evasive emotion?
In short, PERMA-V does.
However, this is not a destination. But rather, they are the building blocks for a good life, created by Dr. Martin Seligman, the founder of positive psychology.
The six core element of psychological well-being and happiness, according to positive psychology, are:
P - Positive Emotion - having an optimistic and positive mindset in the here and now.
E - Engagement - having interests that deeply captivate us, leading to moments of flow and personal growth.
R - Relationships - experiencing affection, friendship and love in the different contexts of our lives, which also provide support during difficult times helping us to be more resilient.
M - Meaning - believing or working towards something that transcends ourselves or our lifetimes, giving us a meaning as to why what we do matters.
A - Achievement - having a sense of accomplishment on a regular basis in at least one domain of our lives. These achievements push us to continue to thrive and flourish in our lives.
V - Vitality - taking good care of our bodies and minds, leading to better health and more energy.
This PERMA-V gives us a great starting point to map out how to flourish in our own lives and fill up our own building blocks to well-being.
